A popular feature of the week in Chiavenna is Saturday’s market in Pratogiano area. Popular with residents and visitors alike - full of character, colour and all-year-round bargain opportunities. The market sets out its stall early in the day: everything from fresh fruit and vegetables, sweets and biscuits of every kind; every type of clothing which might range from the current moda to the more traditional. Local quality cheeses sit alongside roasting chickens and stuffed olives, garden tools, furniture and fittings. A veritable alpine bazaar displaying everything under the sun. Then of course there’s the town itself: after your ‘dizzying’ market adventure take a leisurely stroll from the Piazza Castello all the way down the via Dolzino. Yes indeed - more shopping opportunities - but also tables outside bars situated in some of the most charming piazza, often hosting centuries-old fountains. And inevitably - a well-earned aperitif. Cheers!
