Among these is the historic centre of Chiavenna, characterised by Renaissance palaces, historic streets, soapstone portals and architectural features that reflect the town’s role in trade routes connecting Italy and Northern Europe. Its urban fabric still preserves traces of the valley’s medieval and Renaissance past, making it one of the most representative historic settings in Valchiavenna.

In Valle Spluga, visitors can explore the Roman Bridge and the Caurga della Rabbiosa, a site where history and nature come together through an ancient stone bridge overlooking a deep gorge carved by water over centuries. The area offers one of the most striking examples of the relationship between historic infrastructure and the alpine landscape.

In the upper Valle Spluga, above Madesimo, the Madonna d’Europa stands as one of the valley’s most recognisable landmarks. Positioned high above the surrounding landscape, the statue offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and has become a popular destination for hikers and visitors.
