The lake offers many opportunities for outdoor activities and water sports such as kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding and rowing. Visitors can also explore the shoreline by boat, navigate the mouth of the Mera River or reach the Tempietto di San Fedelino, one of the oldest examples of Romanesque architecture in Lombardy, mainly accessible from the lake itself.
Located north of Lake Como, the lake is framed by forest-covered mountains and small villages overlooking the water. The mild climate creates an almost Mediterranean atmosphere, ideal for spending time outdoors, relaxing on grassy or sandy beaches and enjoying sunny days in a peaceful setting.
The northern area of Lake Como, known as North Lake Como or Alto Lago di Como, is characterised by authentic landscapes, fishing villages and lakeside towns. Colico, Sorico, Gera Lario, Domaso and Gravedona are some of the destinations scattered along the shoreline, offering spectacular panoramic views.

Valle Spluga is an Alpine valley stretching from Chiavenna to the Swiss border and reaching the Splügen Pass at around 2,114 metres above sea level, a historic connection route between Italy and Switzerland. The valley takes its name from the pass itself, which for centuries represented a strategic communication route and a true Alpine gateway between Lombardy and regions beyond the Alps. The ancient viaSpluga route still connects Chiavenna with Switzerland through a historic and scenic itinerary following the paths once used by merchants, travellers and Alpine communities.
