As part of the Lombardy Lakes Festival, this performance offers an outstanding theatrical and spiritual experience. Mario Pirovano, the renowned actor of Dario Fo and Franca Rame’s theatre company, presents *Lu Santu Jullare Francesco* to mark the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of Italy.

This powerful monologue brings to life a rich gallery of characters from medieval Italy—popes, cardinals, soldiers, peasants and monks—offering a portrait of St. Francis far removed from the traditional hagiographic image: a man of the people, provocative, consistent and ironic, just as the Saint himself liked to describe himself, a “”jester of God.””

An opportunity to experience the great tradition of Italian civic theatre, blending popular satire, medieval storytelling and oral poetry.
