Campodolcino and Splughetta Loop

Valchiavenna

The Campodolcino and Splughetta Loop is an easy trail running route, ideal for those approaching mountain running or looking for a short training route through the landscapes of Valle Spluga. The climb towards Splughetta requires a good effort, rewarded by wide views over the surrounding mountains.

Details

The route starts at the Campodolcino Sports Centre, which is easily accessible and equipped with free parking, a bar and changing rooms with showers. An ideal starting point to prepare for the run and relax at the end of the training session.
The route initially heads south, crossing the bridge over the Liro stream before taking Via dei Lamponi northwards. Once at the Acquamerla playground area, the route turns left and continues along a forest trail that climbs over 300 metres of elevation gain in approximately 2 kilometres, reaching the village of Splughetta.

From here, panoramic views open up over Fraciscio, Motta and Pizzo Stella. The return follows the same trail or, alternatively, the paved road to the Campodolcino campsite. The final section follows the Liro stream on its left-hand bank and leads back to the Sports Centre.

The Campodolcino and Splughetta Loop is part of the network of routes developed with the contribution of Francesco Puppi, one of the leading figures in international trail running. Thanks to his competitive experience, the project enhances routes suitable both for training and for discovering the area, on the very trails where the champion prepares for his sporting seasons.

Water points: Campodolcino, Splughetta and Acquamerla Park.
